PAGANELLA, THE ALPINE SKI AT ITS TOP
In 1950 Zeno Colò won here the first downhill edition of the legendary ski competition ‘3Tre’. In 2009 the innovative event ‘Alpine Rock Fest’ was launched. Today the ski area is the official European training center for Norwegian ski team as well as it has been in the past for several years for US SKI team. Last but not least it hosts two races of the women European Cup circuit.
Through Zeno Colo, Bode Miller, Richard Cyprien, Ted Ligety, Davide Simoncelli, Aksel Lund Svindal, the training camps of the US SKI team and currently of Norwegian ski team , Paganella is now also a fix appointment for the European women Cup, the preliminary competition for future world champions. This is the business card of Paganella Ski, the strategic resort with 50 km of renovated and wide slopes , a record of 1,100 meters of vertical drop, reachable at just 16 km from the Brenner highway, connecting Italy to Germany via South Tyrol and Austria.
Talking about Paganella means also taking a dip into the past. The third weekend of January 1950 came to life on Paganella’s slopes the first edition of the famous downhill competition called ‘3Tre’, with 75 competitors and the extraordinary victory of the world class champion Zeno Colò.
The champions, the history of alpine ski and the great events are therefore inextricably linked to Paganella and that will be also the case in the next winter season 2015/2016: from 13. to 22. of December the Norwegian ski team will arrive on Paganella’s slopes for a training session having them once again chosen the ski area as their official training base in the Alps, a partnership which last since years and it has just been confirmed until 2018.
NORWEGIAN SKI TEAM TRAINING CENTER
Since few years and at least until 2018 thanks to a new agreement, the ski area will be "Paganella Ski Trentino-European Norway Ski Team Training Center", officially the european training center for the Norwegian Alpine Ski team. Great champions along with all other athletes, coaches and staff members will make Trentino their logistics base for trainings between competitions in different parts of the world. They elected Paganella as the best place to find their ideal physical condition, to test materials and why not also to relax and recharge their batteries in preparation for major competitions. The slopes of the Ski Area Paganella are among the best known of the province, thanks to a cutting-edge innovative ski area , to its privileged geographical position, close to Austria, Germany and Switzerland, homes to many races of the World Cup, but also to the airport of Verona. The national Norwegian will take advantage for their training of the wall of the ‘Olympic 2’ slope and alternatively of the slop so called ‘ Red Cloud’, which will be reserved in dedicated time slots established according to the needs of the team.
Among the athletes of Norway Ski Team, Aksel Lund Svindal (2007 and 2009 World Champion; 6 medals at the world championships, including 4 gold, 3 medals in Vancouver 2010 Olympics ,a gold, a silver and a bronze) says about Paganella: "I knew already Andalo for my participation in the World Alpine Rockfest 2009 and I can’t wait to return there to have training on one of the most beautiful slopes of the Dolomites. Thanks to its proximity to major routes, I can spend periods of relaxation between one race and another. "
Also Olympic champion Kjetil Jansrud knows pretty well the slopes of Paganella : “Andalo for me is a must, I came here several times for my trainings, even more, once last year ,I woke up at 4 in the morning to be on time in Andalo for my workout (I was in Val Gardena for the world cup). I also participated at the World Alpine Rockfest 2009: a well prepared track as it’s not easy to find around. "
